Obituary for Gary Smothermon

Gary Lee Smothermon, age 67, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. Memorial services will be held at 2 PM on Friday, December 23, 2016 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Mike Henderson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Gary was born on December 24, 1948 in Childress to Odis and Faye (Thomas) Smothermon. He worked for the railroad for over 30 years. Gary served his country in the United States Army from 1969 to 1972, and was a Morse Code Interceptor in Japan during Vietnam. He loved playing golf, music of all kinds but especially the Eagles, and cooking. Many people in town loved his beef jerky and his pickles. He married Mendi Crook on March 27, 2013 in Childress. Above all else, he loved his wife, and was very proud of his kids and grandkids. Gary was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Mendi Smothermon of Childress; three sons, Jacob Smothermon and wife, Melissa of Rowlett, TX, Jaycin Smothermon and wife, Falon of Amarillo, TX, and Nathan Smothermon and wife, Celeste of Granbury, TX; step-son Chris Taylor and wife, LeeAnna of Farwell, TX; step-daughter Ali Taylor of Childress, TX; brother Ronnie Smothermon and wife, Pam of Odessa, TX; eight grandchildren, Noa Smothermon of Rowlett, Maycin, Avery, Kolt and Jaylon Smothermon of Amarillo, Kennedy Smothermon of Granbury, Declan Taylor of Farwell, TX, and Trey Posey of Childress; and numerous extended family and friends.
