Obituary for Freddie Gale

Freddie Maxine Gale, age 93, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Randy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Freddie Maxine was born on July 19, 1923 in Childress, TX to Joseph Donald Crook and Laura Carl (Alford) Crook. She married Paul J. Gale on July 22, 1949. They were married for 29 years until Paul Gale’s death in 1979. Freddie Maxine grew up on the Crook farm in Childress, TX. She attended Olympus Elementary school and Childress High School – where she graduated in May of 1939 at 15 yrs. old. She continued her education at Draughn’s School of Business in Fort Worth, TX where she graduated with a business degree. She then entered the workforce as a secretary for Swift Aircraft in Fort Worth, Texas. Her next position was at the Fort Worth Army Airfield as a Classification Analyst for Civilian Personnel. At the age of 22, she moved to southern California where she worked as a secretary for the Alford Elliott Oil Company In 1949 she met the love of her life, Paul J Gale and they were married one month after they met. In 1953, she and her husband and daughter moved to Winton, CA where they raised almonds on an 80-acre farm in Central California. During this time, Maxine also worked as a secretary for Farmers Insurance Group in Merced, CA. In 2008, her health began to fail and she moved back to Texas to live in Lubbock where she was near her siblings. A Christian woman, Maxine was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Merced, CA. Above all else, her family was everything to her, and she took great pride in their accomplishments and successes. She made sure that her daughter was involved in church, band, Camp Fire Girls, and many other community activities. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her half-brothers, Jay and Harold Malloy. Survivors include her daughter, Carol Gossett and husband Frank of Clovis, CA; two grandchildren, Aaron Gossett and wife Liza of Clovis, CA, Ryan Gossett and wife Laura Kathleen of Summerlin, NV; one great-grandchild, Sloan Kathleen Gossett of Summerlin, NV; and numerous nieces and nephews. Surviving sisters include, Mildred Allen of Denton, TX, Jo Thomas of Lubbock, TX, Lois and her husband Dean Smith of Moore, OK, Shirley Barnes of Lubbock, TX. and brother Don Ray Crook of Childress, TX.
