Obituary for Franklin "Monte" McCarty

Franklin Monroe “Monte” McCarty, age 73, died on November 2, 2018.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the Parkview Baptist Church with Pastor Don McFarland, Associate Pastor Chase Finch, and Dr. Mike Henderson, officiating.  Burial will follow in Kirkland Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Home.
Monte was born on October 1, 1945 in Abilene, Texas to T.A. and Jo Taylor (Cox) McCarty.  He grew up and graduated in 1964 from Archer City, Texas, which he affectionately referred to as “Archer poochie”.
In 1966, he was drafted into the United States Army to serve in Vietnam, which he did so until 1972.  He worked for Atex Oil Company for 10 years.  He then worked for Amarillo Linen, Frito Lay and Dr. Pepper.  He worked for TDCJ until his retirement in 2011.
He enjoyed reading, being involved in prison ministry, watching his grandsons play football, loved to witness about his Jesus and studying the Bible. He never met a stranger. 
Above all else, he loved spending time with his family and loving on his grandchildren.  In recent years, a special highlight was watching his grandson, Austin, play in the Greenbelt Bowl 53 years after he played in it in 1964.
Monte was preceded in death by his parents, Jo and Elmer Taylor and T.A. McCarty; one brother, Butch Benton.
Survivors include his loving wife of 43 years, Beverly, of Childress; one brother, James Curtis Taylor of Atlanta, GA; one daughter, Christie and husband, Billy Paul Ragsdale of Iowa Park; son, Monte Lee McCarty of Wichita Falls; son, John Arbuckle of Amarillo; son, Todd Arbuckle of Childress; son, Cory and wife, Dee McCarty of Childress; twelve grandchildren; Kristen Squires, Courtney Ragsdale of Iowa Park, Crystal and husband, Jared Smith of Iowa Park, Laura and husband, Ryan Chavis of Wichita Falls, Tyler and wife, Kimmie of Childress, Lindsay Ragsdale of Iowa Park, Colby Arbuckle of Childress, Kaitlynn Arbuckle of Childress, Austin McCarty of Childress, and Taylor McCarty of Childress; fifteen great-grandchildren; two brother-in-laws, Kenneth and Pam Sims of Amarillo, and Robert and Barbara Sims of Childress; one sister-in-law, Donna Benton of Longview, TX; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
