Obituary for Frankie Holton
Funeral services for Frankie Holton, 95, will be held Friday, October 23, 2020 at 2 p.m. at the Westhill Community Church with Tommy Sims officiating. Private family burial will follow under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 1001 Avenue E Nw.
Frankie Veneta Holton was born July 9, 1925 in Childress to Claude Dowis and Clara English Dowis.
Mrs. Holton was a talented artist excelling in many artistic mediums from oil painting to ceramics. She was a seamstress who was resourceful enough to often create her own patterns. She was an avid crafter before the term even existed. She was not afraid of a hard day’s work. During her lifetime, she spent time laboring on the farm, owning and operating the local grocery store, supervising at the sewing factory, owning and operating her ceramics business, and preparing food for family and friends. She served the Lord in her church, Calvary Baptist, by preparing and serving food as part of the kitchen ministry team for many years. She especially loved working in the kitchen during Vacation Bible School. She was a determined, steadfast, virtuous woman who was at times stubbornly independent. Most importantly, she loved her family with a deep abiding commitment and expressed that love and commitment in all that she did. She had many roles throughout her long life, but the ones she will be remembered for the most are loving Mother, Grannie, and Nanaw.
As her family remembers her, we know that when she went home she saw the gates before her. Pop, her sweet husband, was there awaiting his bride to come home. God joined them in peace for they knew that all was healed, old wounds of the past were forgotten. The true love that they saw in that moment was ignited in Christ. She was a good woman who left a lasting legacy of love. This legacy of love and family will continue and be treasured throughout many generations to come.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Downing English.
Survivors include a son James Holton and wife, Sarah; a daughter Beverly Sims and husband, Tommy; grandchildren Chad Holton, Lana Waits and husband, John, Connie Miller and husband, Jeramy, Michael Sims and wife, Tara, Jessica White and husband, Malcolm, Mark Waits and wife, Megan, Aaron Miller, Bradley Miller, Mikayla Swires and husband, Johnny, PFC Tate Sims; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
