Visitation will be from 7-8 PM on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Home.
Floyd was born on January 8, 1930 in Biardstown, Texas to F.L. and Rebecca (Love) Hatcher. He married Lorene Skidmore on June 21, 1947 in Biardstown, Texas, and they spent the next 72 years raising a family, laughing and loving each other.
Floyd and Lorene moved to Childress County in 1948, and they immediately began to put down roots. He first worked at the grocery store in Carey, but was always a hard worker who did whatever he could to support his family. He also worked as a plumbers helper, another grocery store, as both a fireman and fire marshall, and eventually an auto parts store where he worked for many years.
A giving man, Floyd was a faithful and generous blood donor, giving each time he had the opportunity. He also was a Sunday School teacher and secretary for the United Pentacostal Church in Childress. He was fun-loving, ornery, a jokester, and he loved to give everyone nicknames.
Above all else, Floyd loved his wife and family, and his children and grandchildren were his pride and joy and gave him great happiness over the years.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, brother J.L. Hatcher, sister Ann Hatcher, and grandson Joel Layton.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Lorene “Rene” Hatcher, of Childress; two sons, Ronald Hatcher and wife, Sondra of Childress, and Donald Hatcher and wife, Laura of Brownwood, TX; one sister, Wanda Beattie of Olean, NY; one brother, Charles Hatcher of Tulia, TX; eight grandchildren, Chris Hatcher, Lindsey Freeze, Nicholas Hatcher, Andrew Hatcher, James Brocksch, Jr., Dalton Layton, Leigh Ann Layton and Blayne Layton; five great-grandchildren, Jackson Hatcher, Maci Hatcher, Mattie Freeze, Mary Hatcher and Zayne Portilla; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to CRMC Hospice, PO Box 1030, Childress, TX 79201.
