Obituary for Floyd Hardin

Funeral services for Floyd Gene Hardin, 84, will be held Friday, February 7, 2020 at 2 p.m. at the Joe E. Jones Memorial Chapel at Childress Cemetery with Chad King officating. Burial will follow under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 6, 2020 from 6-8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home.
He passed away Sunday, February 2, 2020 in Childress.
Floyd was born September 3, 1934 to Floyd and Velma Hardin in Stamford, Texas.
He served in the U.S. Army and later he worked for West Texas Utilities in Memphis Texas, where he met Janey Norman. They were married on Feburary 16, 1963. They settled in Matador, Texas soon afterward.
Floyd’s second love of his life were horses and he owned many thousands. He had some real nice ones and some not as nice. Some of the better ones ran in the Rainbow Futurity and many other races. He was a “horse trader” and was well known and liked in the industry. Many ranchers and Horseman would drop by at Floyd’s place in the afternoons or weekends and these visits could last for hours. Numerous cowboys have rode some of the horses Floyd had sold through the years. He worked for West Texas Utilities for 38 years and retired from there in 1998. He was a member of the Lions Club in Matador and also member of the Childress Elks Lodge. He and Wilbur Don Williams once won the state domino tournament. He was a great dad and friend to many that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Patricia Dunaway and Rose Richardson.
Survivors include his wife, Janey, of Childress; two sons, Kyle Hardin and wife, Sheila, of Dillon, Montana and Kody Hardin and wife, Carolee of Sweetwater, Texas; five grandchildren, Anna Omsberg and husband, Nathan, of Denver, Colorado; Laura Velaso of Denver, Colorado; Stacey Leger and husband, Aaron of Oklahoma City; Nathan Hardin of Odessa, Texas and Hadlee Hardin of Sweetwater; three great grandchildren, Jack Leger of Oklahoma City; Bridger Omsberg of Denver, Colorado and Kylee Omsberg of Denver, Colorado; a sister, Freedonia Pascal of Lubbock and numerous nieces and nephews.
