Obituary for Finis Cheatheam

Finis Carroll Cheatheam, 84, died Monday, April 17, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Wayne Reid officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home. Carroll was born May 3, 1932 in Tell to Samuel Llanis (S.L.) and Willie Cheatheam. He married Tomie Jean Perry on December 16, 1966 in Paducah. They celebrated their 50th anniversary this past year. He graduated from Estelline High School and worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for several years and then farmed until retirement. He produced the county's first bale of cotton several times. He was a hard working man and happiest when he was in his cotton fields. He took great pride in keeping his fields clean. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Denton, Sam, Claude, Lark, and Newell and a sister, Pat Elliott. Survivors include his wife Tomie of Childress; daughter, Diane Reid and husband Jerry; daughter, Rita Eubanks and husband, Mack; daughter, Kim Baranski and husband Michael; daughter, Pat Boyle and husband Raymond; son, John Rochelle and wife Nancy and son, Randy Rochelle; brother, Harold Cheatheam and wife, Barbara; sister-in-law, Lois Cheatheam; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildre; and numerous extended family and friends. Memorial donations may be made to Childress Meals on Wheels.
