Obituary for Esther Wright

Esther Frances Wright, 102, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the Craig Methodist Retirement Center, Amarillo, Texas. Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, June 22, 2013 in First United Methodist Church with Rev. George Price officiating . Burial will be in Childress Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on Friday, evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Esther was born November 26, 1910 in Richmond, Texas. She was the eldest daughter of Paul and Ruby Pierce. In January of 1916, her family moved to Childress where she lived most of her life except for a few years residing in Vernon and Burkburnett. After graduating from Childress High in 1929, she then attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene and Draughon's Business School in Wichita Falls. She and Harold "Hap" Wright married November 25, 1935 in Amarillo. After 16 years, she retired as administrative assistant at Childress High School. She then assisted Judge Dean Decker for five years. Esther was a loving mother and was an avid reader who remained active in Childress book clubs and the Order of Eastern Star. She was longtime member of First United Methodist Church and Choir. In 2005, she moved to Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold (Hap ) Wright; brother, Joel C. Pierce, and two sisters, Jean Schleicher and Joyce Pierce. Family suggests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, 201 Ave. D, NE, Childress, TX 79201 Survivors : Two sons, Paul Wright and wife Sandra of Apex, North Carolina, and John Wright and wife, Yvonne of Greenville, South Carolina; One sister, Violet White of Lancaster , TX. Four grandsons, Eric and wife, Lisa, Sean and wife, kristy, Ryan and wife, Kelli, and Paul and wife, Natalia, and One granddaughter, Kathryn; and Five Great Grandchildren.
