Obituary for Dottie Sue Bettis

Dottie Sue Bettis, 92, peacefully passed from this life Friday, April 23, 2021 surrounded by her children.
Graveside services are set for Monday, April 26, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Childress Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home.
Dottie was born on October 26, 1928 in Wellington, Texas to Aaron George and Fannie Sue Sisk, and was the youngest of 11 children. She married James Albert Bettis after the war, in 1945, and they moved to Childress in 1946. Until 1976, she worked with Jim at their family-owned business, Bettis Electric. Dottie was elected Justice of the Peace of Childress County in 1977, and served through 1982, before being appointed City Judge in 1983. The next year, she served as Fund Drive Chairman for the 1984 Red Cross March Campaign. She also graduated from Vernon Regional Junior College with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. Later that year, Dottie took on additional duties by assuming the Justice of the Peace of Childress County Precinct 1. She continued that position after being re-elected in 1986, and served through the end of 1998.
Dottie was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, James Albert Bettis and one grandchild, James Parker Bettis.
She’s survived by her three children; Lynn of Grand Prairie, Larry of Childress, and Terry and wife, Claudia, of Abilene; four grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday evening,April 25th from 5 to 7 pm at Johnson Funeral Home
