Obituary for Dorothy Rucker

Dorothy Jane Dudley Rucker, age 82, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016. Services will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at First United Methodist Church of Childress with Pastor Lou Ellerbrook officiating. Visitation will be from 5:30pm to 6:30pm on Monday, May 2, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home. Dorothy Jane Rucker was born on October 29, 1933 to Claude Estes Dudley and Estelle E. Catherall Dudley in Childress, TX. She lived in Childress most of her life except when she moved to Guam to support her husband, Vern while he served in United States Navy. She spent much of her life as a homemaker, but she also helped with accounting in their family business, Rucker’s OK Tire. She loved her family, especially her granddaughter and great grandchildren. She was a multifaceted woman who appreciated all of the arts and was a painter, herself. She was also an accomplished pianist and played the organ for several of the local churches. She loved to read and also performed book reviews. Dorothy had deep roots in Childress and was civically engaged throughout her life, which included being President of the Women’s Department Club. One of Dorothy’s most endearing attributes was her sense of humor. She loved a good laugh and always told jokes. She is preceded in death by her husband, Vern Rucker; son, Mark Rucker; parents, Claude Estes Dudley and Estelle E. Catherall Dudley; sister, Mildred Gardner.
