Obituary for Doris Teague

Doris King Teague, age 96 of Childress, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014. Graveside services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Childress Cemetery with Dr. Mike Henderson officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014 from 6 to 8 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Doris was born on April 26, 1918 in Hope, Arkansas to Oliver Jasper and Montie Mable (Jeffries) King. She married Lt. Colonel Weldon Winfield Teague on August 1, 1945. Doris spent her lifetime giving of herself and caring for others. She devoted her time to volunteering, working diligently with the Red Cross as a Disaster Relief Worker and with the First United Methodist Church. She was a former President of the Childress Regional Medical Center Hospital Auxilliary and served on the CRMC Hospice Board of Directors. Her charitable attitude and willingness to help others was instrumental in starting MHMR programs in Childress, and also in starting Childress’ first Girl Scouts troops. In 2003, the Childress Chamber of Commerce acknowledged all her hard work and sacrifice when presenting her with the Lifetime Achievement Award, which she was very proud of. The thing she valued most, however, was her relationship with the Lord, which she took very seriously. She lived the Christian walk, smiling and uplifting and encouraging anyone she could when the opportunity arose. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Nadine King Auck. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, PO Box 4002018, Des Moines, IA 50340-2018. Survivors include: one daughter, Erin Wages and husband, Milton, of Childress; one grandson, Martin Harris and wife, Rita, of Childress; one great-granddaughter, Kyla A. Mock of Childress; two nephews, Michael Auck and wife, Bonnie and David Auck and wife, Linda, all of Texarkana, AR; and two step-grandsons, Levi Wages and Toby Don Wages.
