Obituary for Donnie Moates

A Graveside Service for Donnie Lloyd Moates, 70, of Celeste, Tx., will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Childress Cemetery with Dr. Mike Henderson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. Moates passed from this life on Monday, April 8, 2024 in Greenville, Texas.

Donnie was born on February 11,1954 in Morton, Texas to Jimmy Lloyd Moates and Shirley Lorraine Simmons. He married Nelda Minyard on December 31, 1997 in Kingston, Tx. Donnie was known as a very hardworking person. He worked at Questa Energy as a pumper and at JBS as a Maintenance Superintendent. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working, collecting coins and cooking.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; Nelda Moates of Celeste, Texas, his mother; Shirley Mills of Childress, daughters; Tina Cain and husband Brady of Ponca City, Ok., Tara Jones and husband Layne of Piedmont, Ok., Latishia Hamro and husband Chris of Quinlan, Texas, and Marissa Moates of Willis Point, Texas, sisters; Cindy Rufenacht and husband Dale of Amarillo, Susan Spring and husband Robert of Orange, Texas, step-brother; Ricky Mills, step-sisters; Janis Mills and Karen Maddox, grandchildren; Ally and Avery Markstahler, Bella Cain, Blake Johnston, Marlee Jones, Lilliauanne Reschke, Ayzlee Hamro, Hendrixx Hamro, Hope Powers, Braxton Moates, and Ruby Bateman, nephews; Tyler Rufenacht and Nick Compton, nieces; Jaime Rohrer, Misti Crawford and Kandace Tiner, numerous great-nieces and nephews, and most importantly, his best buddy Jack the Great Dane.

He is preceded in death by his father; Jimmy Moates, his brother; Mark Moates, and his step-father; Robert Mills.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital or to Childress We Can Care PO Box 7 Childress, Texas 79201 c/o Tracy Lambert.
