Obituary for Donald Trent

Funeral services for Donald James Trent, 90, will be held Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 2 p.m. at the Childress Church of Christ with Dr. Mike Henderson officiating with Dr. Dee Green assisting. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 12 from 6-8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home.
Donald was born December 17, 1929 in Carey, Childress County, Texas and passed away on February 11, 2020 in Childress, Texas.
Donald was commonly known and loved by many as “Papa Donald.” He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was assigned to the computer programming division - a brand new technology at the time. After an honorable discharge, he returned to Childress to work for Burlington Northern in both Childress and Amarillo. He was then employed as a draftsman at the Highway Department (now TxDOT) and later a long-time, beloved mail carrier for the local Post Office.
After retirement from the Post Office, his hobbies included gardening, restoring classic cars, woodworking, and enjoying time with his family. Donald was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and held firm in his faith. His number one goal in life was to lead his family to Jesus Christ.
Words are inadequate to express our gratitude to Dr. Dee Green for his loving care and abiding friendship, above and beyond all medical necessity. Appreciation is also extended to CRMC Hospice for making his final days as comfortable as possible and to his granddaughter, Hayley Helm, who was his special caregiver.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris Kay Cawthon; his parents, D.C. and Allie Mae Trent; and three sisters, Lillian McIlroy, Florence Butler and Mary Trent.
Donald is survived by seven children: Connie Roberts, Deborah Rozycki, Barbara Seal, Jimmy Don Slingerland, Ginger Morgan, Carol McKay and Donna Smith; 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CRMC Hospice, 901 Highway 83 North, Childress, Texas, 79201.
