Obituary for Don and Kay McFarland
Funeral services for Don, 84, and Kay McFarland, 80, will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Parkview Baptist Church with Lester Hutson officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home.
Don and Kay were married for 60 years. After spending several years as a butcher for both United Supermarket and Gage Foods, Don and Kay owned and managed Don’s Supermarket for over a decade. On October 2, 1984 Don was ordained into the gospel ministry and served as a devoted pastor, with Kay alongside him as a faithful wife, at Parkview Baptist Church of Childress for the last 38 years.
Don was well loved by the community and always had a joke for everyone. Kay was a devoted prayer warrior who enjoyed playing the piano at church for many years. While they both will be deeply missed by those who love them, the impact they made on the community doing God’s work will be felt for generations to come.
The couple were preceded in death by Don’s parents and a brother and sisters along with Kay’s parents and a brother and sister.
Survivors include their children Lisa Bailey and husband, Randy, and Nancy Nippert and husband, Rice; grandchildren Erik Wilson and wife, Heidi, Drew Nippert and wife, Meghann, Elliot Nippert and wife, Meagan, Daniel Brek Wilson and wife, Pachia, Sarah Tucker and husband, Beau, and Luke Wilson and Sara; five great grandchildren and one on the way and Don’s sister Elois Elkins.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Parkview Baptist Church.
