Obituary for Denese Mills

Funeral services for Denese Stevens Mills, 73, will be held Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 3 p.m. at
First Baptist Church with Randy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the
direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, January 3, 2020 from 6-8 p.m. at
Johnson Funeral Home.
 
She passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2019 in Childress.
 
She was born April 27, 1946 in Quanah to Obert T. and Zada Inez Stevens. She graduated from
Childress High School in 1964 and from Texas Tech University in 1970. She married Ricky Mills on March
30, 1972 in Childress. She was a speech therapist for 36 years in Childress, Memphis, Crowell, Quanah
and Wellington where she touched the lives of countless children. She was also a master tooth puller for
the kids at school. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Childress, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, the
Emmaus community, Retired School Personnel, the Truman Webb Sunday School Class, the National
Education Association, and the Texas State Teachers Association.
She loved her family above all, but also loved antiques, puzzles, fly fishing in Colorado, Texas
Tech athletics, the Childress Bobcats, chocolate, Facebook, homemade fudge and a good Mocha Frappe
from Ballyhoo. She was a wonderful “Neesy” to her grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Obert T. and Inez Stevens.
 
Survivors include her husband, Ricky Mills of Childress; two sons Ryan Mills of Childress and
Craig Mills and wife, Suzan, of Grand Prairie; four grandchildren; Dakota Miller, Tanner Mills, Chloe Mills
and Ella Mills; special friend Marci Mills along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
