Dean A. Decker, age 88, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018, in Childress, Tx. Memorial services will be held in Childress at 1 PM on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Lou Ellerbrook officiating. Visitation will be held at the church immediately following the service. Dean was born on February 3, 1930 in Munday, Texas to Frank and Alma (Swift) Decker. He married his high school sweetheart, Jerry Michie, and they spent 70 years in love and laughter. Dean was the Childress County Judge for 12 years, served on the CISD School Board, and was previously named as Man of the Year in Childress. He ranched and farmed in Montana, South Dakota, and Texas, and was previously named as the Childress Farmer of the Year. Dean was soft hearted, and loved his family, horses and big dogs. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson Jeff Conatser, his sister Genevieve Winter, and his brother Don Decker. Survivors include his wife, Jerry (Michie) Decker, of Childress; one daughter, Cheryl Conatser and husband, Jerry of Ft. Worth; one son, Jim Decker and wife, Cathy of Montgomery, TX; two granddaughters, Jennifer Hendrix and husband, Dr. Max Hendrix, and Sarah Cook and husband, Cody; one grandson, Wade Decker; and three great-grandchildren, Avery Hendrix, David Hendrix, and Charlotte Cook. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Childress Regional Medical Center or to Cook Children’s Hospital in Ft. Worth.
