Obituary for David Galligan
David Galligan, age 71, passed away on July 30, 2020 with his wife of 49 years, Darlene, by his side.

Visitation is Sunday, August 2, 2020 from 5–7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, 307 Ave. C NW, Childress.
David was born August 31, 1948 in San Angelo to Lorraine Breedlove Galligan and Edward James Galligan. He graduated from Childress High School in 1966 and West Texas State University in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology/sociology. He married Darlene Bragg on June 12, 1971 in Childress.
David loved God, his family, and his friends, and they all loved and adored him too. His contagious spirit captured every room, and he had a way of making everyone feel special. He had many passions in life, including watching the Dallas Cowboys, fishing, gardening, taking family vacations, celebrating holidays, and planning his next meal. He also enjoyed watching the Childress Bobcats and Lady Cats and spending time with his extensive list of friends. It would be impossible to list every person who mattered deeply to David, but a close-knit brotherhood continued throughout his life with his friends, Dr. Mike Henderson, James Driver, Wayne Lindley, Pat Steed, and Larry Moore.
David served his hometown of Childress as City Manager for 20 years. He was the type of leader who taught you how by showing you how. He was a visionary, a hard worker, and always found ways to make things happen. Whether it was related to his work for the City of Childress, creating special memories for his family, or caring for people in need, his passion was to see positive results in projects and people.
After his time at the City of Childress, he worked for Childress ISD as the manager of the weight room. He developed many friendships during his time there and used it as an opportunity to pour into the lives of many people. During this time, he also created an outreach program and phone ministry through church called Care Call, where he checked on shut-ins and others in need. He was also employed by Fox Rural Health Clinic and called patients to remind them of their medical appointments. He never stopped creating opportunities and did whatever he needed to do to provide for his family.
David was a member of the Childress Church of Christ. He was also involved in many civic organizations, such as Rotary Club, Lions Club, Greenbelt Bowl All-Star Classic, the Century Prison Committee, Medical Crisis Committee, and was a volunteer firefighter. He served in leadership roles in many of these organizations. Throughout the years of his career and civic duties, he earned numerous awards and recognitions; the culmination of which was the Childress Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.
In 1995, he endured a life-altering brain aneurysm that left him paralyzed on his left side. This required him to accept many adjustments in how he lived day-to-day, but it only increased his love for God, people, and life, as well as his determination and perseverance. Through the toughest circumstances, his faith never wavered, he weathered every storm with grace and positivity, and he continued to be the foundation and leader of his big family. His desire was to always meet the needs of others, and many times, that was through praying with them. Even through his adversity, he spent the last 25 years ministering to countless people, some of whom he never met. He spent his days imagining ways to endlessly love and serve people.
When David completed his journey Home, the Lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” Matthew 25:23
To know David was to love David. His big heart is what all his family and loved ones will miss most.
David is survived by his wife, Darlene Galligan; daughter, Amanda Kirkpatrick, and her husband, Erik of Wolfforth; son, John Galligan, and his wife, Kammie of Childress; daughter, Sarah Criswell, and her husband, Tate of Odessa; daughter, Emily Solis, and her husband, Patrick of Lubbock; grandchildren, Kristen Kirkpatrick, Katy Anderson and husband, Camden, David Kirkpatrick, Koen Galligan, Beckham Solis, Kinley Galligan, Sealy Solis, and Kylan Galligan; and great-granddaughter, Lynlee Jane Anderson. He is also survived by his sister, Martha Bratcher of Amarillo. He has numerous extended relatives, all of whom he loved deeply.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Breedlove DeOnier, and his brother-in-law, Waylon Bratcher.
The family suggests donations in his memory be made to the Childress Bobcat Booster Club.
