Clifton Wayne Poss, Sr., age 83, passed away on January 31, 2017. Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 2 PM in the Joe E. Jones Memorial Chapel in Childress Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Clifton was born on December 1, 1933 in Littlefield, Texas to Jim Poss Sr. and Lorene (Galloway) Poss. He and Effie Miller were married on April 6, 1958 in Bell, CA and shared 58 loving and happy years together. A sweet, humble, wonderful man, Clifton always worked hard to provide for his family. During the last 12 years, he was one of the preachers at Fairview Primitive Baptist Church in Paducah, TX. He taught his sons the value of hard work, and the treasure and reward that it can bring. A United States Army veteran, Clifton served his country during the Korean War era. Above all else, Clifton was a Godly man who was a wonderful example to his sons. He was a good husband and father who was affectionate, loving, even-tempered, had a wonderful personality and was quite a character. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Lewis William Poss, and one brother Sammy Poss. Survivors include his wife, Effie (Miller) Poss of Paducah; two sons, Clifton Wayne Poss, Jr. of Miami, FL, and John Jefferson Poss and wife, Olga Lucia of Montgomery, TX; one brother, Jim Poss, Jr. of Altus, OK; one sister, Vivian Ellis of Fountain, CO; two grandchildren, Natalie and Matthew; two great-grandchildren, Nataniel and Noah; and numerous extended family and friends.
