Obituary for Claudia "Rechow" Goff

A Loving Tribute   September 25, 2017 marked the passing of Claudia Goff of Childress.  Born in Long Beach, California June 21, 1942, she moved to Childress in 1969 with her first husband Fred Tyler and their 2 daughters, Ronna and Raelene.  Those crazy Californian’s would soon be known as Friendly Fred, Fluffy, Fred’s Kid #1 and Fred’s Kid #2.  This was the first of 3 moves to Childress.  Claudia was employed at The Village Inn Restaurant, 1976-1977 by her partner in crime, Carrie Miller.  She was also employed with State Farm Insurance 1980 - 1984.  Not long after the dissolution of her first marriage, she met the love of her life, Cornbread, also known as James Goff.   February 29,1984 in Taos, NM on a ski slope with an in progress ski class as guests and Coors Light and Twinkies filling in for champagne and wedding cake, a skiing preacher married Claudia and James. They moved to Lake Tahoe, NV, where they began their life together. Claudia cherished the years spent there, the memories held dear. It was difficult leaving but she and James moved back to Childress, November 1997. A fourth time! This was her home for the rest of her life. She was employed by Wal-Mart for 18 years, retiring early 2014. Not one to sit around, Claudia became Chief Financial Officer, Chemical & Fuel Specialist, and Flight Vehicle Prep for Goff’s Leasing Service, LLC. James serves as pilot.   Claudia enjoyed her family - “grand” doggies and kitties included, a nice dinner out, reading, humor and wit, bantering with her hubby, sassing her sister, Native American history, art, football, NASCAR and especially golf…..playing, cart riding, and watching televised tournaments.  TV was a favorite pastime, of hers; while watching her favorite programs, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Dancing with the Stars and especially her “stories”, it was well known by her daughters, interruption was unacceptable - phone calls accepted during commercials only! She appreciated nature and took time to notice a beautiful sunset, a flower in bloom, unusual cloud formation, pogono, the Native American word for frost on trees but not the ground. Many road trips were taken, with Claudia waking her young daughters early in the morning to look at the sunrise! They begrudgingly obliged.   She was known by many names – Claudia, Mom, Fluffy, Clyde, Aunt Claudia, Gramma.   She was known by many attributes – optimistic, beautiful, smart, intellectual, strong, loving, brave, caring. Claudia was wife, mother, sister, aunt, gramma and great gramma.  She cherished all those roles.  Her optimism and laughter, along with her smiling blue eyes, will be remembered by those who knew her.  We celebrate her.  We invite those whom she called friends to celebrate her too.   She is survived by her loving husband James Goff, 2 daughters, 2 stepdaughters, 1 stepson, a sister, 1 niece, 1 nephew, 2 granddaughters, 2 grandsons, and 1 great grandson.   Visitation will be Monday, October 2, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home of Childress, 5:30-7pm.  Services are Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the Joe E. Jones Memorial Chapel in Childress Cemetery at 1pm.   Please celebrate Claudia by wearing shades of blue, her favorite color.  Any shade found in the many colors of Lake Tahoe, her favorite place.
