Obituary for Clarence Butler

Clarence Ross Butler, age 63, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2016 in Childress. As per his wishes, there will be no services. Ross was born on January 1, 1953 in Childress to Jesse Clarence and Florence Helen (Trent) Butler. Ross graduated from Childress High School in 1970. He earned a Bachelor of Science from West Texas State University, completing his studies in 1974 with a major in biology and minors in chemistry and physics. He received his diploma by mail in 1975, as he didn’t wait for the ceremony, instead going to work in the laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine. He worked in Louisiana and Arkansas performing radiographic industrial inspections for Peabody Testing. After that, he moved to Houston where he worked for Fairfield Industries as a Geophysicist (Sr. Analyst) with The Processing Center of Houston. In 1989 he returned to Childress and went to work for TxDot. He retired after twenty years as the Childress District purchasing agent and warehouse manager. A quiet man, he enjoyed gardening, restoring classic vehicles and was an accomplished guitarist. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Sherry Lynn Butler. Survivors include a brother, Randy Butler of Childress; and several nieces and numerous grand-nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to the Childress Meals on Wheels.
