Obituary for Dayne Whitten

Graveside services for Dayne Whitten, 82, will be held Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Childress Cemetery with Randy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 4, 2023 from 6-7 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home.
He went to be with the Lord on October 2, 2023 in Childress.
He was born April 13, 1941 to Charlie Whitten and Willie Cook Whitten. He retired from TxDOT as a the maintenance shop supervisor after 45 years of dedicated service. He was a talented man with many skills. He loved designing and building heavy equipment and was a great mechanic. He had a kind and giving soul and a heart of gold. He enjoyed spending time at the Childress Senior Citizens Center. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to arm wrestle in his younger days and wasn’t afraid to let you know that he would win. And he always did. He was known to his family as Farmer John. He will be dearly missed and was so loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty Whitten, two sisters, Charlene Smith and Sonya Walls, two brothers, Dick Whitten and Melvin Whitten, and one grandson, Zyan Lee Perez.
Survivors include a daughter, Sherri Bradford and husband, Ronny of Childress, a daughter, Donna Fanning and husband, Charlie, of Childress, a son, Jeff Whitten and a daughter, Kanda Whitten, grandchildren Cassie Stark and husband, Scott, of Childress, Matthew Thomas of Childress, Kelley Whitten and wife, Allison, of Odessa, and Kayla Hernandez of Waxahachie, 10 great grandchildren, and siblings, Bill Whitten, Gayle Whitten, Darlene Harris and Arvazene Crouch and husband, Charles.
