Obituary for Charles L. Buckholtz

Charles L. Buckholtz, 83, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020 in Childress. Memorial services will be held January 4th at 10 am at Childress Cemetery in the military memorial park adjacent to the chapel. A second service will be held in two weeks at the Houston National Cemetery where Charles will be buried with military honors.

Charles was affectionately known as “Bucky” by his many friends and co-workers. He was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma and served in the United States Army and Army Reserves for 6 years as a Military Police Sergeant. He graduated college from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and began a career in the banking industry in Wichita Falls where he made his home and started a family. He was a bank executive for 27 years before retiring. Charles loved to bass fish and quail hunt and had two dogs he adored; Maddie and Darcey. He also enjoyed hot rod cars throughout his life since his father owned vehicle service stations in Oklahoma. As a teenager, Charles was caught drag racing his dad’s new cars and this behavior continued into his 80’s when he would always say “goodbye” from a visit with a loud roar, burning rubber, and with a grin on his face. Always seeking to be busy, he returned to work for the State of Texas when he moved to Childress. He worked at the TL Roach Unit where he retired once again in 2005 and in 2006 returned to work until December 2020; a total of 30 additional years. He had great joy in the many relationships and friends here that kept him busy and were undoubtedly responsible for his long life. He will be missed by all for his loving and joking nature and his family will forever miss his humble and sweet natured heart.

Charles is preceded in death by his father, Charles Carter Buckholtz, his mother Novella Buckholtz Doggett, and his beloved daughter Melissa Detrick.
Survivors include, his loving son Jon Carter Buckholtz and wife Holly of Conroe, grandchildren Samuel Detrick of Salina Kansas, Erin Harrelson and husband Braden of Oklahoma City Okla., Carter Buckholtz of Conroe, and son in law Michael Detrick of Wichita Falls.
In lieu of flowers, any desired donations can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in his name and in his daughter’s memory.
I love you and will miss you Pops.
