Obituary for Calvin Stackhouse

Calvin Thomas Stackhouse, 80, passed from this life on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Childress Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
He was born in Hughes, Arkansas on January 17, 1940 to Henry Isaac Stackhouse and Iris Essie Cupples Stackhouse.
Calvin grew up on Beck Plantation and was a star in both football and track before graduating from Hughes High School in 1959. He then attended Ouachita Baptist University on a track scholarship where he continued to pursue athletics. Nicknamed “Stack” as a track sprinter, he set many records in the State of Arkansas. He stills holds the Arkansas state record for the 40-yard dash. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Ouachita in 1965. Calvin retired in 1997 from the State of Arkansas after 30 years of service as a County Welfare Director and and Supervisor of Employment Security Commission.
He and Jan moved to Childress in 2005. In retirement, he loved working in his yard and watching football. He was an avid Arkansas Razorbacks fan.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jerrold Stackhouse, John “PeeWee” Perry.
Survivors include his wife, Jan, of Childress; daughter Sheila Lutz (Randy) of Houston; stepson Michael Head of Childress; a sister Clara Trimber of Sunset, Texas; a brother, Niles Stackhouse (Karen) of Colt, Arkansas and numerous nieces and nephews.
