Obituary for Brenda Underwood

Brenda Lea Underwood, age 47, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2016. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Friday, September 23, 2016 at Westhill Community Church with Rev. Tommy Sims officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Brenda was born on September 25, 1968 in Childress to Jim Ed and Annie Louise (Ellifritz) Garrett. She was married for 25 years to Johnny Max Underwood and three children were born to their union. A fun-loving person, she was always able to find the silver lining and turn bad situations around. Spontaneous and happy, Brenda was an outspoken but lovable person who was always helping others and putting herself last. Family oriented, she took care of them in every way she could, from providing soft discipline with her “great aim when she threw something to get their attention” to providing wisdom and sharing her experiences. Brenda loved singing, dancing, and had an appreciation and collection of unicorns. She was well known to her family as “Aunt CooCoo”, and for her pancakes that she insisted on making every time they came to visit. She loved her family dearly, but always wanted a fairy-tale love. She had attended Trinity Worship Center before moving. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, a brother John Webster Garrett, and a grandson Blake Lane Marines. Survivors include son Johnny James Underwood and wife, Jessica of Childress; daughter Stacy Marines and husband, Gil of Quanah; son Jim Underwood and significant other, Kristian Morris of Amarillo; her former husband Johnny Max Underwood of Amarillo; two brothers Billy Don Garrett and Calvin Andrew Garrett, both of Childress; one sister Laura Cranford of Denton; and numerous extended family and friends. Memorial donations may be taken to Johnson Funeral Home to help the family with expenses.
