Obituary for Berchel Kindle

Berchel Kindle, age 80, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2019.
Memorial services will be held at 2 PM on Friday, March 8, 2019 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Mike Henderson and Rev. Terry Williams officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
Berchel was born on November 26, 1938 in Childress to C. L. and Eunice Edwina (King) Kindle. A hard worker, he worked for the Highway Department for 32 years until his retirement. He married Sue Nunley on June 5, 1959 in Childress. They spent 59 years together in love and laughter.
Berchel was a friendly cowboy who never met a stranger. He loved to laugh, tell jokes and was a jokester. He loved to sit on his front porch and visit with anyone who came to see him. He also loved fishing, music (especially Merle Haggard), traveling, going antiquing or “junking” as he called it, and riding his Harley.
Berchel was proud of his heritage, was a true Texan from the word go who loved Texas and lived as a true Texan would - large, no sugar-coating, simply and on his own terms. He was always open and honest, and would tell you what he thought, and this applied to anyone who sought his counsel.
Above all else, Berchel loved his family and was always there for them for counsel, support and comfort. He was a man who did life his way and went out his way, with no fluff.
Berchel was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Delois “Tooter” Latham, brother Raymond Bergan Kindle, and his mother-in-law Janie Mae Nunley.
Survivors include his wife, Sue; two daughters, Karen Kindle Evans, and Lisa Kindle Kirkwood and husband, Danny; two grandchildren, Eric Kindle Smith and Bergan Brian Evans; one great-nephew, Adam Latta; one sister, Jackie Sanders; three brothers, Bo Kindle and wife Mae, Richard Kindle and wife Robbie, and Robert Kindle and wife Amy; brother-in-law, Russell Latham; and numerous extended family and friends.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church, 1606 Ave I NW, Childress, TX 79201 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
