Obituary for Barbara Jones

Funeral services for Barbara Jones, 71, will be held Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Tim Medley and Edwin Sides officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home.
She passed away May 18, 2023 in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Barbara Jane Trent was born January 10, 1952 in Childress to Ben Trent and Thelma Inez Gressett Trent.
She married Robert Garland Jones, Jr. on June 20, 1969 in Childress.
Barbara loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to everyone she came in contact with. Barbara served her community as an Alderwoman for 10 years and then as the first female Mayor for 6 years. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Childress Cemetery Committee. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she served as the chair of the hostess committee. For many years, she made nursery sets for many babies in the community. Barbara worked for Childress ISD for many years as a paraprofessional where she touched the lives of many students. She loved her job with Texas Boll Weevil Eradication where she loved working with the farmers and her employees. Barbara loved working outside, whether it was in the field with Bob or in her beautiful yard. Upon retirement, you could find Barbara at the lake fishing, traveling the country with Bob, or supporting her grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Evelyn Griffin and Frances Smith; a brother, Ben Trent; her maternal grandparents, Sally and Wesley Gressett and her paternal grandparents, Mary and John Trent.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Jones, Jr. (Bob) of Childress; three sons, Robert Jones III (Robby) and wife, Melissa, of Childress, Kevin Jones of Amarillo and Joseph Jones and wife, Karly, of Childress; grandchildren Haley Richardson and husband, Colin, Auzlyn Jones, Colton Jones, Megan Jones, Bailey Jones, Trent Jones, Kali Jones and Kristopher Jones; great grandchildren Ari Jones and Branson Jones; siblings Ellen Gillem, George Trent and Kathy McClain and numerous other extended family members and friends.
