Obituary for Tony Martinez
Funeral services for Tony Martinez, 62, will be held Friday, January 29, 2021 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Randy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.
He passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021 in Tahoka.
Tony was born September 11, 1958 in Wellington to Juan Martinez and Elida Sanchez Martinez.
He was married to his wife, Lana, for 41 years. He worked for South Plains Electric for 31 years and retired from there in September 2020. He was very involved in his grandkids activities and was very proud of all of them. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and working cattle on the Sims Ranch in Wellington. He loved to watch rodeos and was a 4-year letterman in football at Wellington High School. He was a Skyrocket for life.
He was preceded in death by his father and an infant child.
Survivors include his wife, Lana, of Tahoka; a daughter, Lynsi Ballinger, of Lubbock; a son, Joe Clay Martinez and wife, Erika of Childress; a daughter, Lacy Rodriguez and husband, Ignacio, of Childress; grandchildren Ethan Leija, Bailey Martinez, Erick Leija and wife, Sheyenne, Erynn Leija, Jacob Rodriguez, Hayden Rodriguez, Katelyn Rodriguez and Caleb Rodriguez; a great grandson, Erick Leija, Jr.; his mother, Elida Martinez; siblings Lupe Martinez, Josie Biemer and husband, Darryl, Eva Hamby and husband, Kevin, Rickey Martinez and wife, Kelley, Juanita Ham and husband, John and Juan Martinez, Jr. and wife, Carrie along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
