Obituary for Alletta Edwards

Alletta Mae Edwards, age 79, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2016. A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 10 AM at First Baptist Church with Rev. Chad King and Randy Wilson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Alletta was born on September 4, 1937 in Hobart, Oklahoma to Ernest and Julia (Shackelford) Edens. She married the love of her life, Billy Jim Edwards, on June 1, 1955 in Hobart and they spent 61 years together in love and laughter. She was well known for her quilting and crochet talents, and gave countless family and friends her handmade items that were made with love. She even sent Kate and Tina to Russia with a suitcase of crocheted angels for a children’s home. In 1958, Alletta joined and became deeply involved at First Baptist Church, devoting her time and talents to helping others in any way she could and serving the Lord. In her spare time, she loved camping, fishing, the outdoors, collecting dolls, and cooking. She loved a well-done steak, and those who cooked for her often had to throw it back on the grill. Above all else, Alletta loved her family and was very proud of all their accomplishments. They brought her great joy and happiness. Likewise, her husband and family loved her very much, and were very proud of the life she lived and the legacy she leaves behind in their memories. Alletta was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings. Survivors include her husband, Billy Jim Edwards of Childress; one sister, Luretta Hall of Snyder, OK; three sons, Kenneth Edwards and wife, Tina of Childress, Kirk Edwards and wife, Rida of Amarillo, and Keith Edwards and wife, Audra of Baird, TX; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends. Memorial donations may be made to CRMC Hospice, whom the family wishes to express a special thanks to for all their wonderful care, at PO Box 1030, Childress, TX 79201.
